All the major reviews of this system including Consumer Reports state that it can be expanded to 7.1 channel operation by purchasing an optional S-Air rear surround amplifier and speakers. This is not so. The optional kit is not available in the states. I called Sony to confirm this and their tech support directed me to the owners manual and a setting that provides virtual 7.1 surround sound from the 5.1 system provided. Bottom line: This system is not expandable to 7.1 channel surround sound operation. If you buy it with the intent to expand to a 7.1 channel system at a later date you will be very disappointed as I was.
